Opinions run strong on both sides
Jews who oppose Zionism are called "self-hating Jews." When I first encountered that train of thought, I was simply floored. You hate yourself because you question the policies of a foreign government where a large percentage of the people might be of the same religion?
If you're Catholic and question something the Vatican does, are you a "self-hating Catholic"?
Why shouldn't someone of the Jewish faith question the actions of the Israeli government if they disagree?
One such "self-hating Jew" is Norman Finkelstein. You might wish to watch this short interview: Norman G. Finkelstein: "Israel is Now a Lunatic State" [Video] Finkelstein is much hated by supporters of Zionism even though his father was a survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto and Auschwitz.
Another group considered "self-hating Jews" are True Torah Jews Against Zionism. I have spent a considerable amount of time reading their web site and I do not see hate, only a lot of time spent presenting their feelings about Zionism as it relates to their religious teachings. I have been told in emails from individuals who support Israel no matter what that government does, if I agree with the Rabbi's against Zionism, I should go to Hell because "you are obviously a Jew hater." I believe my Jewish friends would disagree with that as they do the Zionist agenda.
